We’re a test and measurement company, and we develop employee initiatives the same way we develop our products: by soliciting feedback, analyzing data, iterating collaboratively, and testing until we get things just right.

Flexible Work
We know NIers do their best work when they have flexibility and autonomy. We empower teams to define how they work best. Some members may choose to work remotely, others may prefer to be on site (or be required to for their function), and some might prefer to mix things up.
We continue to invest in the technology infrastructure needed to support this hybrid work culture. We are also reimagining our office spaces to reflect new ways of working. For example, in 2022 we began remodeling our Austin headquarters to feature customizable “neighborhoods” with a mix of workspaces for focused or collaborative work. And we conducted extensive pilot testing with employees to optimize these configurations.

Rewards Equity
To support our employees’ quality of life at work and at home, we have a holistic wellbeing strategy focused on five pillars—community, emotional, physical, financial, and purpose.
Ensuring our employees are equitably rewarded for their work supports the financial wellbeing pillar and our overall DEIB strategy. We are proud to report that in 2021 we achieved substantial equity of base salaries for all NI employees in similar roles and levels with comparable performance and impact. And we maintained these levels in 2022.

And one of our most notable and popular benefits is our companywide Recharge Weeks: In 2022, NIers had four weeks when they were encouraged to eliminate meetings and use their time for vacation, professional development, or quiet work.

Our global NI Thrive platform is a hub for all employee wellbeing programs. NIers use the NI Thrive app to access benefits information, take health check assessments, view wellbeing content tailored to their needs and interests, and participate in companywide wellbeing challenges to win prizes.
Many of the challenges focus on sleep and movement, with employees syncing their fitness trackers to the NI Thrive app. For example, in June 2022, our World at Play competition challenged NI teams across the globe to track their combined steps to reach 15 destinations around the world.
Mental Health Support
Following employee feedback, we place a special emphasis on supporting NIers’ mental health. We provide toolkits and webinars on topics such as trauma, depression, substance abuse, suicide awareness and mind/body nutrition.
In 2022, we held our second-annual Mental Health Town Hall, where NI leaders shared their personal stories and experts shared tips and resources. We also continued our weekly meditation series and launched a self-care challenge in which more than 400 employees tracked their daily self-care time.

Career Development
One of the core tenets of NI’s Corporate Strategy is to create a high-performance organization. Through our engagement surveys and listening with employees, we’ve learned that career development is a top priority for NIers and a key driver of employee engagement and retention. In 2022, we launched NI Grow, a new learning platform that uses machine learning to deliver content personalized to each employee’s needs.
We also introduced three new options for internal career mobility at NI: permanent roles; short-term rotations that enable employees to gain experience in a different role; and “gigs” that enable employees to take on a short-term project with another team to cultivate new skills.
Additionally, we offer comprehensive leadership development programs for individual contributors and all levels of management, from new managers to executives.
Spotlights on Employee Engagement
Austin FC Corporate Cup
As part of NI's sponsorship of the Austin FC Major League Soccer team, we hosted our first-ever Corporate Cup at Austin FC’s practice facility. In November, we had 24 teams of employees playing in a tournament at the grounds as their colleagues cheered them on.
Workplace for Everyone
At NI, Workplace for Everyone means we embrace a hybrid work culture where employees work with their teams to choose the way of working that best fits their needs and their role. Some NIers work on-site, some work remotely, and others do both.
NI Korea Employee Appreciation Day
In September 2022, NI Korea employees enjoyed a two-day, action-packed appreciation event. Individual teams enjoyed their chosen team-building activities—such as dancing, biking, sailing, fishing, glamping, bowling and visiting museums—and then all employees met up for a celebratory dinner and awards event.
